University police are investigating a series of Monday morning car burglaries at Parking Lot R behind Smith Hall.
According to crime information officer, Jason Bone, six cars were burglarized between 4 a.m. and 5 a.m., resulting in $5,564 in lost merchandise.
“[Parking Lot R] is off the greater path,” Bone said. “There are easy ways out of there on foot.”
Several items were stolen during the burglaries including textbooks and CD players.
“Hopefully, some of the stuff will turn up,” Bone said.
All the windows were broken out of the cars that were burglarized, commented Bone.
Bone also advised students to park in well lit areas and to take all valuables with them instead of leaving them inside of vehicles.
He said that students hide their car keys as well.
“I would recommend everyone to keep their valuables out of sight,” Bone said.
Burglaries are usually the highest right before Christmas, he said.
If anyone has information regarding the thefts, it is encouraged to call UPD at 903-886-5866.
