New writing center opening in Gee Libary

The new writing center in the Gee Library will be opening March 26, according to library assistant, Jacob Pichnarcik.

The center will offer extended hours for those students who need to see tutors at night or on the weekends.

Sunday through Thursday, it will be open from 6 to 10 p.m. and on Saturdays noon until 4 p.m. During hours of business, there will always be two tutors on duty, with a third on call if need be.

Some of the services the new writing center will be offering are: assistance with thesis development, research, writing arguments, and citation formatting assistance.

“Students can walk in on a first come, first serve, basis or they can make an appointment to see a tutor. This new writing center is an extension of the writing center that is currently in the Hall of Languages,” Pichnarcik said.

The writing center also encourages students to bring their assignment sheets with their papers so the tutors can address everything their instructors want in their papers.

This center is not strictly for English papers though.

“We can help with history papers, science papers, journalism papers, any subject, any level, from freshman level to master’s thesis, to doctoral dissertations,” Dr. Shannon Carter, head of the writing center said. “We are very excited about the new location that’s opening in the library. The new tutors are spending this week in the Hall of Languages doing training sessions, observing and honing their expertise getting ready to serve writers at a new location.”
