Lion golf round-up

The Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s golf team finished in eighth out of 14 teams at the UCO/KickingBird Classic, posting a team total of 877 (301-286-290).

Blake Slaughter of St. Edward’s brought home individual honors with a nine-under par 201 (67-68-66).

He also led the Hilltoppers to a team title, which shot a three-day total of 836 (286-278-272). St. Edward’s edged out host UCO by a stroke for the team title.

The top finisher for the Lions was sophomore Blake Worden who tied for 26th with a three-day total of 216 (75-71-70) and six-over par.

Freshman Brian Pearce wrapped up his finest tournament in his young career as he tied for 30th with a three-day total of 217 (76-68-73), including a second round career-best 68.

Sophomore Pinkey Hartline was tied for 41st with a 219 (75-72-72) with a nine-over par total.

Senior Ryan Jaco was 69th with a 228 (75-78-75) and freshman Chase Johnson was tied for 80th with a 237 (84-75-78) to round out the Texas A&M-Commerce lineup.

Up next for the Lions is a trip to the Subway Invitational in Amarillo. First round action will get underway on Monday, April 2nd.

Freshman Heather Pantalion wrapped up a strong two days of playing at the Grand Canyon Women’s Invitational with a final round 77 to wrap up her first top-10 finish to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce to an 11th-place finish.

The Pflugerville native shot a two-day total of 151 just two strokes behind individual winner Denise Canadas of Cal State-Chico.

Fellow Lone Star Conference foe Tarleton State took home team title honors with a 614 (299-315).

The TexAnns landed three golfers in the top 20 en route to the tournament title.

For the Lions, senior Adi Attaway-Bryant and sophomore Jamie Gililland shot a two-day total of 165; in addition, sophomore Ali Tanner shot a two-day total of 167 (81-86).

The next tournament for Texas A&M-Commerce is the Lone Star Conference Championships on April 16-17 at the Bear Creek Golf Club in Irving.
