On March 29, the Kappa Alpha Order fraternity held their 27 annual KA Airband that raised $4,000 for the Muscular Dystrophy Association of Dallas.
The brothers of the fraternity hold their philanthropy every year for the MDA of Dallas and raise the money by selling ads and taking donations.
“Overall, I thought it was a great success,” said KA president Josh Spoonemore. “The brothers pulled together and did an excellent job of putting on another airband.”
Four main acts took the stage for the night hoping to take the airband crown. The Chi Omegas, Kappa Delta, Alpha Phi and Kappa Delta Chi put on their best show for the crowd as a close call by the judges gave the Chi Omegas the victory.
Filler acts took the stage as well during breaks and added to the entertainment.
Texas A&M University-Commerce theatre major and current Last Lion Standing Champion Matt Plummer took the stage for his comedy routine. Plummer, who has a form of Muscular Dystrophy, had the crowd of about 350 laughing throughout the show.
KA brother Stephen Sparks and Chris Russell performed two songs of their own. Alpha Phi Alpha member Morris Taylor performed two songs as well.
Courtney Seae, member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority performed a song by Christina Aguilera and MC Jerrod Edelhouser played the guitar while Kappa Delta Alumni Carmen sang the vocals.
The KA brothers would like to give a special thanks to Marc Scott, Roy Rasheed, Esther Robinson, Kyle Lowe and Sara Hillis who had the tough job of judging the event, and to the sponsors and supporters that came out to see the show.
