TEXARKANA – Those in attendance Saturday at Texarkana’s Jump, Jive and Jam Festival, did not get the “run-around,” and were treated to an evening of blues infused good times that will not be forgotten.
Before the nights fesitvities, there were a multitude of art exhibits, events and a burger competition to warm up many in attendance.
And that was just for starters.
Kicking off the evening’s bill was Texarkana’s own Jawbone, setting the tone with plenty of power and enthusiasm to match the already amped crowd. From Led Zeppelin and B-52 covers to original songs, the band was solid throughout their set, and provided a nice compliment to what was to come from the headliner, Blues Traveler.
Blues Traveler took the stage to a standing ovation from the anxious crowd. Vocalist and harmonica player, John Popper, wearing his traditional black hat, took to the stage with commanding fervor with the rest of the band following closely. At one point early in the set, the jam blues-rock fusion band, played for what felt like an eternity of funky guitar riffs and psychodelic melodies, entrancing concert-goers.
Blues Traveler may not be churning out the Grammy-nominated hits of the ’90’s but I would have “coffee and tea” with them any day.
