Influenced by Pantera, Sik works hard to prove they are one of the best bands in Dallas. On this night, the band was the epitome of amazing and did not let the energy drop all night.
Throughout the entire show there was movement onstage, incredibly smooth transitions and for the girls, some major eye candy.
Lead singer, Mike Sickels, is more articulate then 90 percent of the local metal scene. Sickles showed this versatility by growling through half of the songs, and having a lighter edge in the others.
Left-handed guitarist, Dano Hibbs, spent his time throwing out heavy riffs. During his guitar solo’s, Hibbs burns up the frets on his guitar while giving the audience a clever, cute, and flirtatious smile. Girls, you can’t help but think he is hot.
Bassist Nick Vargo is not bad to look at either. In addition to helping keep the energy of the show up, Vargo adds spice and flavor by creating a counter-rhythm to Keith Wishon’s drums.
Speaking of Wishon, he was fabulous.
His drums where intricate and his use of double bass was perfect. He kept time without the use of a click track and made playing drums look easy, as he flashed smiles and threw jokes to his band members onstage. His attitude onstage reminds me so much of local legend Vinnie Paul (Pantera, Damage Plan, Hell Yeah).
If you are interested in local bands like System Overload or the mainstream metal sounds of Hell Yeah, then you will love Sik.
Catch them locally in Greenville on Sept. 22 at Hartlines with SAO or visit their MySpace page at www.myspace.com/sikband
