The Texas A&M University-Commerce team dropped a five-game heartbreaker to Arkansas Tech, 22-30, 30-20, 30-26, 24-30, 22-20 in the final match of the Labor Day Weekend Volleyball Tournament.
Senior Colleen Favaro had a season-high 18 kills in the loss to lead three Lions with double figures in kills. Seniors Wannie Neal and Jana Starkweather added 12 and 11 kills, respectively in the loss. Sophomore Lauren Flynn had a team-high 17 digs and seven service aces.
Favaro and Neal represented A&M-Commerce on the all-tournament team. For the weekend, Favaro had 34 kills and 11 total blocks and Neal had 21 kills in the two matches.
Arkansas Tech had four players in double figures in kills, including a team-high 18 from Dana Florian. The Golden Suns out-hit the Lions .144 to .116 in the win.
During the first day of the HSU Labor Day Classic on Friday, the Lions won the first game for the fourth-straight match, the Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 28-30, 30-17, 30-23, 30-22 decision to host Henderson State at the HSU Labor Day Classic in Arkadelphia, Ark.
The Lions (1-3) have won the first game in all four of their matches to date in 2007. A&M-Commerce out-hit the Lady Reds .225 to .053 in the initial game of the match. Senior Colleen Favaro had six of her team-high 14 kills and junior setter Brittany Williams added 13 of her 34 assists in the game one victory. For the match, in the loss, A&M-Commerce sophomore Lauren Flynn had a match-high 20 digs to record her 700th career dig.
Henderson State (4-0) landed a pair of players in double figures in kills, including a match-high 21 from Edith Musebe and teammate Quen Banks added 11.
The Lady Reds posted 12 team blocks, including six block solos and four block assists from Musebe.
