Lead vocalist living in the moment

DALLAS – In This Moment is not your ordinary metal band out of North Hollywood, Calif.

Lead vocalist Maria Brink, wowed crowds at Ozzfest last month by rocking out with a powerful voice and an individuality that has yet to be matched.

ITM has been together three years and released their first major-label effort, Beautiful Tragedy, on March 20.

Since then Brink says they have been actively touring with stops on one of the highly anticipated tours of the year, Ozzfest.

“We’re main support for Megadeath for our current tour. The fact that we’re so new and have this stuff going on is mind boggling,” she said.

According to Brink the biggest crowd that ITM has played thus far has been over 5,000 or 6,000 (a local bands dream).

“Dallas was awesome,” Brink said of their Ozzfest set. “It was amazing, really. During crowds I kinda know I’m gonna have to pull kinda hard, I’m gonna wake them up, and by the middle of the set it’s coming alive. I knew like three seconds into our Dallas set it was going to be amazing.”

Brink, who wears knee length dresses of yester year, flaunts her own unique style.

“I kinda wear the themed dresses all the time – it’s my favorite.”

But too bad for the guys, this isn’t a peep show.

“I wear little old fashion ruffle shorts underneath all my dresses, and I don’t put my legs up on the monitors. I used to when I wore pants more, I really had to get used to it.”

And don’t think this chick goes light because she is in a dress. Brink runs around and has more stage presence then most men.

She is out to prove metal isn’t just for the men anymore.

“The worst thing that I can’t stand is when I get questions in interviews like ‘A lot of people think women metal is a new phase…a new trend. Do you think that’s just gonna go away?’ To me that’s almost a sexist question. It’s just ridiculous to me. When they ask me that, I say, ‘well, people thought it was trend and ridiculous when women wore pants, but they freakin wear them and they look good in them, I think that people aren’t quite used to having women in metal so they don’t know how to quite deal with it yet.”

If your really not convinced this is a phase – look back at all the great women in rock music.

Be ready to add In This Moment to the collection of awesome chick fronted metal for years to come.
