The Texas A&M University-Commerce dropped a 32-34, 30-23, 30-24, 30-8 decision to Fort Hays State on Saturday night in its first match of the ACU Volleyball Classic.
Freshman Devin Friedman led the Lions with her first career double-double performance with 10 kills and 21 digs in the defeat. Senior Colleen Favaro led the attack with 17 kills and sophomore Lauren Flynn had 16 digs and three service aces.
In the win, Fort Hays State hit .365 as three Tigers had double-digit kills led by the 25 from Kellyn Thaut. She was joined by Leanna Roberts, who added 18 and Neeley Remmers with 12.

A&M-C posted a straight-set, 30-26, 30-26, 30-15 victory over University of Texas-Permian Basin on Saturday afternoon in its first of two matches in the final day of the ACU Volleyball Classic.
The Lions (3-6) were led by the third-straight double-double performance of Favaro. The San Antonio native had a team-high 19 kills to go along with 11 digs to lead the A&M-Commerce attack.
Junior Brittany Williams also had a double-double in the win, recording 43 assists and 17 digs for her first double-double of the season.
It was a solid all-around effort for the Lions who also had eight blocks and seven service aces in the victory. Texas-Permian Basin was held to a .078 hitting percentage in the loss.

In its final match of the opening day of the ACU Volleyball Classic, the A&M-C volleyball team dropped a five-game decision to Incarnate Word, 27-30, 30-32, 30-27, 30-23, and 15-12.
A&M-Commerce (2-6) won the first two games of the match, hitting at a .275 clip. Favaro had eight of her team-high 18 kills in the first two games.
The Lions and Cardinals were tied 11-different times in game three until a UIW kill and a pair of A&M-Commerce hitting errors led them to the victory. In game four, UIW out hit the Lions, .184 to .176. Cardinals’ junior Kim Kvapil had seven of her match-high 27 kills in the win.
In the decisive fifth game, UIW continued to go to Kvapil, who had seven more kills for the victory; meanwhile, Favaro had four kills for the Lions. A&M-Commerce committed two hitting errors, but it was not enough as the Cardinals’ committed just one.
For A&M-Commerce, Favaro had her second-straight double-double with a team-high 18 kills and 11 digs; plus, senior Jana Starkweather had her third double-double performance of the season with 10 kills and 11 digs in the defeat.
Incarnate Word had six players with double figures in kills, including a match-high 27 from Kvapil. Plus, setter Sarah Nordman had a triple-double with 64 assists, 12 digs and 10 kills.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce volleyball team dropped a 25-30, 30-16, 30-19, 30-20 decision to No. 18 Pittsburg State Friday afternoon in its first of four matches in the ACU Volleyball Classic.
The Lions (2-5) for the seventh time in eight matches won the opening game, outhitting the Gorillas .071 to .026. In the opening game victory, Colleen Favaro had five of her team-high 15 kills and Williams had 10 assists and three service aces to lead the A&M-Commerce attack.
The Gorillas (10-1) came back to win the next three games and were led by Laura Toman, who had a double-double performance with a match-high 16 kills and 11 digs. Pittsburg State also had 11 blocks in the win.
In the loss, A&M-Commerce sophomore Lauren Flynn had a season-high 27 digs and Favaro had her first double-double of the season with 15 kills and 12 digs. Freshmen Terra Ousley and Rachel Lance each had a team-high four block assists in the defeat.
