Sophomore Heather Pantalion lowered her score by two strokes in Tuesday’s final round to lead the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf team to a tenth-place finish at the NSU Women’s Golf Classic.
The Pflugerville native shot a two-day total of 166 (84-82) en route to a tie for 27th to lead the Lions in their first tournament of the 2007-08 season. In her A&M-Commerce debut, freshman Amanda Genovese shot a two-day total of 167 (81-86) and was the third-best player on par 3 holes in the 81-person field. She shot one-over par on par 3 holes for the two-day tournament.
Fellow Lone Star Conference foe Tarleton State took the team title with a two-day total of 617 (302-315) for a 16-stroke advantage over co-runner-ups Northeastern State (314-319) and St. Edward’s (323-310). The Lions finished tenth in the 16-team field with a two-day total of 684 (340-344).
The TexAnns Andrea Lowe took medalist honors, edging out teammate Shraddhanjali Singh by one-stroke. Lowe shot a two-day total of 150 (76-74). For the remainder of the Lions lineup, juniors Jamie Gililland and Ali Tanner were tied for 44th with a 174 (87-87) and tied for 51st with a 177 (88-89), respectively. Freshman Mallory Kempf tied for 69th with a 186 (88-98).
Next, Texas A&M University-Commerce will host the Lion Fall Invitational at Webb Hill Country Club in Wolfe City, beginning on Oct. 1.
