The Texas A&M-Commerce women’s soccer team dropped its second-straight contest on Sunday, falling to No. 14 St. Edward’s, 2-0.
The Lions (4-5) were held to a season-low four shots in the loss. Sophomore Meagan Lasley had a team-high two shots and sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado made five saves in the defeat.
Following a scoreless first half for the second-straight game, St. Edward’s got on the board when Kristen Gascoyne scored her fifth goal of the season in the 58th minute to put the host Hilltoppers in front 1-0. A&M-Commerce continued to challenge the St. Edward’s defense on shots by Lasley and a header attempt by Bailey Geels. The Hilltoppers extended its lead to 2-0 with a goal from 20 yards out by Kristi Morgan with 25 seconds remaining in the contest to improve their record to 7-2.
Previously for the Lions, was a 2-1 loss to St. Mary’s on Friday. In the St. Mary’s game, the Lions ended a scoreless tie 41 seconds into the second half when freshman Dana Deerinwater scored her second goal of the season. The Kilgore native found the back of the net on a crossing pass from freshman Megan Monroe. It is the team-leading sixth assist on the season for Monroe.
The Rattlers (4-3) secured the equalizer in the 81st minute on an Amanda McMullan goal. A&M-Commerce came right back with a threat for the go-ahead goal. Back-to-back shots by Deerinwater and sophomore Meagan Lasley in the 84th and 85th minutes respectively were blocked by the St. Mary’s defense. However, St. Mary’s senior forward Deann Lopez scored her third goal of the season in the 87th minute for the game-winning tally.
