In an age where war is the staple of news media emerges a different kind of movie that puts another spin on our lives and our spirit.
“The Kingdom” takes place in Saudi Arabia where an extremist terrorist organization has set off a bomb in an American facility, igniting an international incident. While diplomats in Washington bide their time on making a decision about territorialism, FBI special agent Ronald Fleury (Jamie Foxx) assembles an elite team to investigate the attack.
Granted a secretive five-day stay, the team is ready to work full throttle until the select terrorist are found. Upon arriving in Saudi Arabia, they are met up by Colonel Faris Al Ghazi (Ashraf Barhom), who informs them their efforts to help are unneeded and he will be watching over them like a babysitter.
These opposing views interact throughout the film and intertwine to a finale that gets your blood pumping and your heart racing.
Amidst the violence and news media dwells the issue that takes place in this film. That issue is the single-minded ignorance of extremist who believe one way of life is the right way.
Yes, we as Americans have been attacked for the way we think. Yes, extreme religious groups in foreign countries have been singled out and looked down upon. But which side is right about their assumptions of the other? That is what “The Kingdom” offers the moviegoers to experience. That is why this critic wants you to see this flick.
For men this film exudes hormone driven action with tons of amazing shoot-outs, explosions and fight scenes. For women this film is emotional, powerful and shocking. Both sexes will enjoy director Peter Berg’s masterful rendition of what will be a classic military thriller.
Jamie Foxx and Ashraf Barhom counter each other as high-ranking officers, both needing closure on the bombing that shocked the world.
Chris Cooper, Jennifer Garner and Jason Bateman make up the FBI team sent over to investigate.
“The Kingdom” shines in all lights, never allowing you one moment of darkness in a world that is always full of it.
