Tyndell named to All-LSC team

Texas A&M University-Commerce Cross Country hosted the Lone Star Conference Championships Saturday at the Eddie Moore Sports Complex.

In the meet, the Lions were led by Paris native Tyler Tyndell for the men and Kate Donovan for the women.

The Lion men finished in fourth place in the team standings, while the women finished in 11th place.

Tyndell led the men by covering the 8,000-meter course with a time of 26:13.09. With the ninth-place finish, Tyndell was awarded All-LSC honors.

In addition to Tyndell, there was a strong finish by Alfredo Soto, who finished 15th with a time of 26:55.78. Robert Reed finished 23rd in 27:32.58, while Gerardo Delafuente was 25th with a time of 27:38.48.

Brandon Womack placed 41st with a time of 28:55.96, and Logan Kelly was 42nd at 28:58.50.

Kasie Carrel finished 59th with a time of 31:12.69, while Lance Smith rounded out the Lion lineup by finishing 66th with a time of 37:57.61.

Kate Donovan led the Lion women, by covering the 5,000-meter course in 26:24.22, for a 50th-place finish. Esther Fernandez finished 69th with a time of 28:18.87, followed by Janna Lane in 70th with a time of 28:24.38.

Rounding out the women’s lineup were Amanda Martin, who finished 80th in 31:04.39, Makisha Brewer, 81st with a time of 31:18.58, and Leslea Traylor, who finished 84th in 35:24.78.

Abilene Christian claimed both team titles at the meet.

ACU claimed the top four finishes in the men’s race, and did so without their most dominant runner, Nicodemus Naimadu, who rested in anticipation for the NCAA Division II South Central Regional.

For the ACU men, Serge Gasore finished in first place with a time of 24:47.79, beating teammate Julius Nyango, who finished three-thousandths of a second after Gasore, with a time of 24:47.82.

Amos Sang, who finished in third-place with 24:50.04, and Phillip Birgen, who finished in fourth place with a time of 24:58.65 rounded out the top four spots, which were all claimed by ACU.

Sang was named the LSC Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Year, while the women’s honor was awarded to Bailey Holden of Central Oklahoma, who finished in sixth place.

ACU women were led by Cheboi Loice, who finished in first place with a time of 22:04.23. Also finishing in the top 10 for ACU women, were Mary Mwangi, who finished in third place with a time of 22:44.92, and Hayley Garner, who finished in seventh place with a time of 23:33.10.

Next up for the Lions, is the NCAA South Central Regional on Saturday, Nov. 4.
