Texas A&M University-Commerce bounced back after dropping the first game to defeat host Angelo State, 23-30, 30-24, 30-21, 30-21 on Saturday afternoon in volleyball action.
The Lions (9-15 overall and 3-6 LSC) were led by senior Colleen Favaro, who had a match-high 24 kills and a .273 hittting percentage in the win. Junior setter Brittany Williams had a double double with 40 assists and 10 digs in the win. Williams was not the only Lion with double-digit digs as Jackie Orr and Lauren Flynn recorded had 13 and 25 digs, respectively.
The Lions came back in the second game, with the match tied for the seventh time at 16, the Lions went on a 7-2 run sparked by three service aces by Orr. The Lions’ Terra Ousley closed out the game with a service ace for the 30-24 win. In Game 3, Favaro led the Lions attack with seven kills as they out hit ASU, .179 to -.057 en route to a 30-21 win. The Lions closed out the match in the fourth game when Favaro added seven more kills and freshman Rachel Lance added six. In the win, A&M-C out hit ASU, .341 to .023.
The Lions next match is on Thursday Oct. 25 at 7 p.m. in Denton, Texas, where they will take on Texas Woman’s.

On Monday, sophomore libero Lauren Flynn (Deer Park, Texas/Deer Park HS) earned LSC Defensive Player of the Week honors after posting back-to-back match highs with 25 digs in a win over Angelo State on Saturday and 28 in a loss to Abilene Christian on Thursday. She averaged 7.57 digs per game, in the two matches. For the season, she ranks third in the Lone Star Conference with 5.68 digs per game and as of Oct. 14, she ranked 40th in the nation.
