In a closely contested regular season finale, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s soccer team battled to a 0-0 tie against host Angelo State on Sunday afternoon.
A&M-Commerce (9-9-1) sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado made three saves, including a 1-on-1 opportunity by the Rambelles’ Ashley Tatum in the first extra period. Angelo State (8-8-2) senior goalkeeper Becky Martin made five saves in the tie for the Rambelles.
The Lions out shot Angelo State, 14-to-12 as senior Bailey Geels, sophomore Whitney Hancock and freshman Chelsey Haight each had three shots apiece.
Despite the tie, A&M-Commerce advances into next week’s Lone Star Conference tournament in Edmond, Okla. The Lions enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and will face the No. 4 seeded Texas Woman’s on Thursday, Nov. 1 at 2:30 p.m.

The Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s soccer team rallied from an early 1-0 deficit to defeat host Abilene Christian on Friday afternoon.
A&M-Commerce (9-9, 5-4 LSC) sophomore Meagan Lasley was involved with all three Lions goals in the win. The Mesquite, Texas native got the game-tying goal in the 36th minute when she beat the ACU goalkeeper with a shot from the left side for her 10th goal of the season. She added assists on the game-winning goal by freshman Chelsey Haight in the 63rd minute and an insurance goal by senior Cheryl Canavan in the 71st minute.
Haight, a freshman from Granbury, scored the game-winning goal in the 63rd minute when she fired a shot from the right side from five-yards out. It is the fourth goal on the season and her second game-winning goal of the year.
Canavan scored her first A&M-Commerce goal when she capitalized on a crossing pass from Lasley in the 71st minute for the extra tally. The Lions sophomore goalkeeper Jennifer Alvarado had five saves in the win.
Abilene Christian (8-11, 3-6 LSC) took a 1-0 lead when Sadie Barton scored in the 29th minute on a 15-yard crossing pass from teammate Katie Miller for the early lead.
