The Department of Art will have a workshop Thursday Nov. 8 for inquiring students that want to further develop their drawing skills. From 3-5p.m. in Room 201 of the Art Building, nude models will be brought in to pose for a figure drawing session.
This workshop is completely voluntary and open to all art majors. The figures are nude models that will have four different poses. Models stay as still as possible, rest during a break and then assume a different position.
The models are paid $10 an hour, which the department of art will pick up the cost.
“This sounds kind of naughty or maybe a little risqué,” Michael Odom, interim department of art head said. “But the activity of modeling is long been an honorable position.”
Although this is just a workshop, some students, depending on their degree will need to take a figure drawing class before they graduate. Some degrees, such as fine arts or news media require a visual representation.
“These students work so hard to get shading and contour lines just right, they are not thinking about the person being nude., Odom said.
