Vandals target 7 vehicles

Seven vehicles at Texas A&M University-Commerce were vandalized with their windows being struck by unknown objects from Friday evening into early Saturday morning.

According to University Police Department Crime Information Officer Lt. Jason Bone, the locations of the vandalized vehicles were spread out throughout campus.

“There were seven vehicles vandalized,” Bone said. “Two university vehicles, which were behind the Field House near the maintenance shed, one in front of the Field House, one in the back of Whitley Hall, two behind Smith Hall and one on Jackson Street, near the married family housing.”

Bone said the first vandalism was reported at 7 p.m. Friday, with the next coming at 1 a.m. Saturday. Most people didn’t find the damage until they went to their vehicles the next day, he said.

Graduate student and Whitley Resident, Robyn Hollis was one of the victims of the vandalism.

“My back window was completely smashed, the only pieces that were still intact was the glass that is glued into the frame of the window,” Hollis said.

“The damage was estimated at about $500, which I have to pay out of my own pocket. There are other ways I would rather spend that amount other than to get my window fixed,” Hollis said of the damage.

Hollis said that she hopes “somebody who reads the newspaper puts two and two together and tells someone if they have information they might know.”

“There was no reason for this to happen,” she said.

Though all official estimates have not been completed and reported, preliminary estimates lead UPD Sgt. Kyle Lowe to believe the minimum amount of damage will be around $3,500.
