The holidays are here and there will soon be another reason to celebrate. Fall graduation takes place on Saturday, Dec. 15.
While graduation is a time for looking toward the future, many graduates also wish to reflect over their previous accomplishments.
Andra Bickel, a health and human services major, will always remember the way that A&M-C affected her, not only through its education, but also through its extracurricular activities.
“I am proud that I had the opportunity to get an education outside the classroom,” Bickel said, referring to her involvement in student activities such as student government and student-athlete advisory committee, as well as being a member of the A&M-Commerce track and field and cross country teams.
“A&M-Commerce is such a diverse campus that I have learned a lot from the people I met and I think that has definitely prepared me for the real world,” she said.
According to the Registrar’s Office, undergraduates in the College of Arts and Sciences and College of Business Technology will have their ceremonies first at 8:30 a.m., followed by the College of Education and Human Services at 11 a.m. and master’s and doctoral graduates at 2:30 p.m.
Commencement ceremonies for each college will take place in the University Field House, with the exception of the Social Work undergraduate graduation, which will take place in the Founders Lounge of the Memorial Student Center, according to the University Web site’s events page.
Many graduates will remember not only their own accomplishments, but also the accomplishments of others at the University.
“I will definitely remember when the Lady Lions [basketball team] made it to the Elite Eight,” Bickel said.
While some undergraduates will continue on to graduate school, many will be leaving the place they’ve resided for the majority of the last half-decade.
“I will miss being part of this campus, that has been my home for the last four-and-a-half years,” Bickel said. “Most of all, I will miss being a Lion!”
Graduates will be presented their diplomas in alphabetical order; the ceremonies will vary in length depending on the college, with no specified ending-time for each graduation ceremony.
Tickets are required for each respective graduation ceremony. There is currently a limited supply of tickets left, and they can be obtained at the Registrar’s Office, located in the McDowell Administration building. The amount of tickets currently available for each ceremony can be viewed at the Registrar’s Graduation Information Web site, located at http://www.tamu-commerce.edu/registrar/graduation.asp.
Requests for accommodations required for disabled individuals can be made to Rick Miller, director of the MSC, via phone or e-mail, at 903-886-5806 and Rick_Miller@tamu-commerce.edu, respectively.
The deadline for filing an application for fall 2007 graduation ended Sept. 7. The deadline for filing an application for spring 2008 graduates lasts from Jan. 14-25.
