Women’s basketball falls to No. 21 West Texas A&M; rebounds at Eastern New Mexico, 75-54

Canyon, Texas – No. 21 West Texas A&M started the second half on a 20-5 run, including six in a row from Courtney Lee, en route to a 61-45 win over No. 13 Texas A&M University-Commerce.

Three West Texas A&M players scored in double digits, including a game-high 19 from junior Emily Brister to lead the Lady Buffs; plus Lee added 12 and junior Jamie Dreiling. The win is the third in a row for WT, who improves to 3-2 and extends the Lady Buffs home winning streak at the First United Bank Center to 35 games.

A&M-Commerce (4-2) senior Katedria Mosley posted her second double-double of the season, scoring 12 points and 11 rebounds. Junior Britney Jordan added a team-high 15, including the final seven points for the Lions.

Mosley put herself into the A&M-Commerce record book, making two free throws with 6:24 left in the game. The two free throw attempts gives the Idabel, Okla., native 530 attempts for her career eclipsing the previous mark held by Alice Fortes.

The defense for both teams was the highlight of the first half. The Lions held West Texas to 33.3 percent shooting and forced 11 turnovers. With five-straight points to close out the first 20 minutes, A&M-Commerce entered the intermission with a 23-22 deficit.

Mosley scored eight points and had seven rebounds at the halftime break to lead the Lions and Dreiling had seven points and five rebounds in the first half to pace the Lady Buffs.

A 30-8 decisive run midway through the first half sparked No. 13 Texas A&M-Commerce to a 75-54 win over Eastern New Mexico on Saturday afternoon in Portales, N.M.

In the win, four Lions (5-2) scored in double figures as seniors Melissa Bratton and Katedria Mosley each scored 15 points in the win. Off the bench, junior Nola Taylor poured in a career-high 13 points – 10 in the second half – and a team-high six rebounds and junior Brittany Williams scored 12 points and had five steals.

The Lions defense forced a season-high 30 Eastern New Mexico turnovers that led to 32 points for A&M-Commerce. Also, the defensive pressure by the Lions forced the Zias to shoot 31 percent from the field and 11.1 percent from beyond the 3-point line.

In the loss, Eastern New Mexico (1-5) Cat Clay had a double double with 11 points and a game-high 15 rebounds. Teammate Tori Northcutt, who was averaging a team-best 11.4 points a game, was held to five points but she contributed 13 boards in the defeat.

The Lions return home to face Tarleton State on today at 6 p.m. at the A&M-Commerce Field House.
