A&M-C women rout ECU, fall to UCO

With an 11-2 run to start the game, A&M-Commerce went on to post a 70-49 win over East Central on Saturday afternoon in Ada, Okla.

Junior Britney Jordan scored a game-high 21 points, including 14 in the first half. Jordan hit four three pointers – including a stretch of three in a row in the first 20 minutes. She was joined in double figures by senior Katedria Mosley, who added 19 points and senior Melissa Bratton chipped in 11.

In addition to the 21 points from Jordan, she turned in a strong all-around game with a team-high and game-high eight rebounds to go along with two steals and an assist.

A&M-Commerce improves to 12-5 overall and 1-1 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.

East Central (9-7, 0-2 LSC North) had a pair of players in double figures including Lacey Goldwire, who scored 14 points and Kristie Dodigon added 11 off the bench.

A&M-Commerce out-rebounded its opponent for the ninth time in the last 10 games. Also, the Lions shot 45.8 percent from the field for its second highest percentage for the season.

Defensively, A&M-Commerce held East Central to 29.6 percent shooting from the field – the second lowest output of a Lions opponent in 2007-08.

Bronchos down Lions

A three-point play by Lizzie Brenner with 45.3 seconds remaining led Central Oklahoma to a 74-68 win over Texas A&M University-Commerce in the Lone Star Conference North Division opener for both teams.

With the game tied at 68, Brenner drove to the hoop and made a layup while getting fouled by Lions’ guard Brittany Williams. Brenner, a 2006-07 first team all-Lone Star Conference North Division selection, converted the free throw for the three-point play to put the host Bronchos up by two, 70-68.

On the ensuing possession, junior Britney Jordan got a 3-pointer off and put-back attempts by Dominee Evans and Katedria Mosley fell short. Following the possession, the Bronchos’ Cristina Yarbrough made two of four free throws for the final margin.

A&M-Commerce falls to 11-5 overall and 0-1 in the LSC North Division.

Jordan led all scorers with 21 points, including a game-high five assists.

She was joined in double digits by Evans, who came off the bench for 13 points and 12 rebounds for the fifth double-double of her career. It is the first time that A&M-Commerce has dropped a decision when Evans records a double-double.

The Bronchos extend their winning streak to six games and improve to 13-3 overall and 1-0 in the LSC North. Cassidy Pillow led UCO with 18 points, including 13 in the first half.

She was joined by Brenner, who recorded her sixth double-double of the season, with a 16-point and 11-rebound effort.

UCO opened the game on a 12-2 run and extended the margin to as much as 17 in the first half en route to a 42-29 halftime lead.

Central Oklahoma was the last team in the Lone Star Conference North Division to defeat the Lions. Following the 84-64 defeat to the Bronchos, the Lions won their next 11 games en route a Lone Star Conference North Division, Lone Star Conference Tournament and NCAA South Central Regional Championship.
