Q & A with Fair To Midland

RC: How has your life been?

JD: Can’t complain it’s been busy but its been good.

RC:Into the business side of things, what is the best venue you’ve played in the last few months?

JD:The best venue of the last few months…HOB are always great. We just did a headlining tour…we’re in the middle of a headlining tour its almost over. We played the Machine Shop in Flint, Michigan is good. I would have to say any HOB or the Machine Shop.

RC: What’s the biggest crowd you’ve played to in the last 6 months?

JD: Biggest crowd, we did some uh we supported Serj Tankian on some of his European dates and those are some pretty big crowds. I couldn’t give you numbers or anything. But any of those.

RC: Kelly Clarkson T-Shirts? Why?

JD: Cuz she’s awesome. We have the same merchandiser. The same people make our t-shirts. So they let me take a grand tour of their warehouse and I got to pick up whatever I wanted. And I found a couple Kelly Clarkson shirts that I liked.

RC: Where did the name Fair to Midland come from?

JD: Fair to Midland is an old southern saying. It’s another way of saying average. Way back the original meaning is for people that were growing and picking cotton. It was just a way of ranking it. Fair, Midland, and Strict. Strict being the best. And Fair to Midland was average. Years later now you hear a bunch of old timers saying ‘how are you doin?’ And they say ‘Ah Fair to Midland’ Which is like yeah I’m okay.

RC: Anything else you would like the inquiring minds of East Texas to know?
