I remember when I first met this stylish gal (Jessica Harrsion). We shared mutual friends from high school and we hit it off right away It helps that we share a passion for fashion! She took the time to sit with me to answer a few questions about her personal style, trends that should stay or go and everything else in between.
MJ: Describe your style in one word.
JH: Don’t be mad, but I’m going to use two words. Urban Sophistication.
MJ: Why?
JH: I think sophistication is important, and the urban flair adds personality to all of my looks.
MJ: Do you have a style icon?
JH: Carrie Bradshaw (played by Sarah Jessica Parker) on “Sex in the City” (Harrison’s favorite TV show). She has a quirky, creative and original vibe and I love it. She’s always shopping on the sales racks and I can relate to that!
MJ: Speaking of sales, do you shop on the clearance racks?
JH: Definitely! I think it’s more fun when you’re discovering sales and items that are marked down. I think quality is important and you should splurge on some items, but in my opinion, quantity is crucial too. The more pieces you have, the more you can mix-and-match.
MJ: What are three essential items every woman should have in their wardrobe?
JH: Gold studs – every woman should have a great pair of all-purpose earrings. A great fitting pair of jeans that can be dressed up or down. And a pair of black pumps is a must-have. They instantly glam up the simplest outfits.
MJ: What’s a trend of the moment that you are in love with?
JH: I love oversized bags. You can throw everything in there. It’s kind of like being unorganized and organized at the same time – if that makes any sense.
MJ: What’s a trend that you wish would go away?
JH: I’m so over sagging. I love the fitted and put together look.
MJ: Are there any trends that you wish would come back?
JH: I like how fashion is cyclical. I love how trends come and go.
MJ: What’s a piece of style advice you adhere to?
JH: Always make your outfits your own. It’s OK to get inspiration from TV shows, magazines and even people you see on campus, but individualize your look and people will notice that you have a signature style.
