Molina’s Mexican Cuisine and Cantina, a favorite among many students, staff, faculty and Commerce community members, traditionally closes for two weeks around the holiday break to allow their employees to spend time with their families.
However, this year, their closing was different than that of the past. This year, the owners chose to renovate the restaurant.
Originally, Molina’s, located at 1814 Monroe St., was schedule to re-open from renovations the first week of the spring semester.
However, various delays were confusing and became increasingly annoying to regular customers, who tried to figure out why the popular eatery was still not opened for business.
According to Commerce officials, Molina’s failed to obtain the proper permits from the city when they decided to renovate. When this was discovered, city officials left messages for Molina’s owners to contact city officials to obtain the proper permits.
While the owner’s were able to quickly comply and obtain the proper city permits needed to complete the renovations, inspections by the Commerce Fire Department and Hunt County Health Department officials were still needed before Molina’s could re-open for business.
Inspections by CFD and the HCHD were completed and Molina’s re-opened for business during the first week of this month.
