Senior Katedria Mosley scored a game-high 30 points, including the first 12 points for Texas A&M University-Commerce in a 88-77 loss to Southeastern Oklahoma State in Durant, Okla. on Saturday night.
After two early ties in the score, SOSU went ahead on a Channing Gann layup with 13:11 left in the first half. The basket gave the Savage Storm an advantage they would not relinquish and sparked a 5-0 spurt.
Mosley added 12 rebounds for her 18th career double-double. Junior Nola Taylor had her third double-double and second in a row, scoring 15 points and 11 rebounds. In addition, junior Britney Jordan scored 20 points, dished out six assists and came up with two steals. The defeat drops A&M-C to 18-8 overall and 7-4 in the Lone Star Conference North Division.
Four starters for Southeastern Oklahoma State were in double figures including 18 points each from Gann and Ashley Tucker. Gann was 4-for-5 from the 3-point line and Tucker made 13 of 16 free throws. Jessica Hocker and Destiny Brown added 17 and 16 points, respectively. Southeastern Oklahoma State raises its record to 15-10 overall and 6-4 in the LSC North.
A layup by Taylor cut the SOSU lead to 26-23 with 8:40 left in the opening half, but the Savage Storm went on a 13-3 run over the next 6:32. The Lions scored six of the final eight points of the half to go into the break trailing by seven.
The Lions relied on its frontline as they scored the first 23 points until Jordan hit a 3-pointer with 5:19 left in the first half.
To start the second half, A&M-C scored 13 of the first 23 points to cut the SOSU lead to four, 51-47, when Jordan hit her second 3-pointer of the game with 16:20 to go.
The Savage Storm retaliated with a 7-0 spurt to push the advantage to 11 on an Ashley Tucker layup. The lead remained double digits for most of the final 14:16.
Taylor leads A&M-C past SWOSU

Nola Taylor recorded a double-double with 15 points and 17 rebounds and the Texas A&M University-Commerce Lions defeated the Southwestern Oklahoma State Bulldogs, 68-62, to add some cushion in the Lone Star Conference North Division on Wednesday night at the A&M-C Field House.?A&M-C improved to 18-7 for the season and 7-3 in LSC North play, while Southwestern fell to 14-11 and 5-5.?An 11-1 run late in the second half by Southwestern pulled the Bulldogs to within 51-50 on a 3-pointer from Jessica Giblet, but the Lions answered with baskets from Britney Jordan and Katedria Mosley to extend the lead back to five.?After trading a couple of buckets, Giblet drained another 3-pointer with 31.5 seconds remaining to pull Southwestern to within three, but that was a close as the team would get as the Lions sealed the game on free throws.?Mosley netted three free throws and Jordan added two down the stretch.?Mosley finished with a team-high 20 points and Jordan followed with 19.?The Lions started three posts in Mosley, Taylor and Dominee Evans, who combined for 35 points and 31 rebounds.?”We found out how to play with three posts,” said Lions coach Denny Downing.?Downing added the team “ran more offensive sets” and wanted “to give [Southwestern] something they hadn’t seen before.”?A&M-Commerce also earned revenge on Southwestern, which defeated the Lions 87-65 on Jan. 30.?The Lions fired out of the gates, holding the Bulldogs to only 25 percent shooting from the field in the first half.??Taylor contributed 12 rebounds and nine points in the first to help to Lions take a 28-18 lead at the break.?”Nola Taylor was a beast tonight,” said Downing.??Taylor also finished with three steals and one block, and helped the Lions control the boards, outrebounding the Bulldogs, 54-38.?Lucy Ramon, who poured in a game-high 23 points, led Southwestern.
