The Morris Recreation Center and the Indian Student Association are teaming up to bring the community the Holi Festival from 4-6 p.m. on Friday March 28 at the Cain Sport Complex.
The Holi Festival is “a traditional Indian celebration of colors, food and fun,” Connie Kercher, assistant director-fitness, said. According to Holifestival.org, “Holi is an ancient festival of India and was originally known as ‘Holika’.” “Holi festival has an ancient origin and celebrates the triumph of ‘good’ over ‘bad’,” Holifestival.org said.
The celebration is in its fourth year on our campus and last year the event had over 150 students and faculty in attendance.
The event is free to every one that would like to attend and includes free t-shirts, free traditional Indian food and the Festival of Colors. The Festival of Colors is where people can throw colored powder on friends.
“Wear clothes you don’t care to get dirty and come experience a new cultural event,” Kercher said.
If the event is rained out on Friday, the Morris Recreation Center will move the Indian food inside its facilities and cancel the Festival of Colors. So even if it does rain come out and experience something different, new and fun.
