CPD tactical officers execute search warrant after apartment investigation

Commerce Police Tactical officers executed a search warrant on April 4 at an apartment in the 2000 block of Washington Street. The search warrant was obtained after an investigation into the sales of narcotics at the apartment. When officers entered the apartment, they encountered one person, identified as 31-year-old Terry Joe Hilliard. Upon securing the apartment, a search team was formed to look for evidence of illegal narcotic activity. According to CPD Chief Kerry Crews, officers located about eight plastic baggies of what is believed to be cocaine, both in rock and powder form. The search also uncovered a loaded 9mm pistol, packaging material, scales and approximately five cigars filled with what was believed to be marijuana. According to the CPD press release, the marijuana cigars and the cocaine were all packaged and ready to be sold on the streets of Commerce.During the investigation, it was found that Hilliard was a convicted felon, so additional charges related to the firearm were filed. Hilliard was charged with possession of a controlled substance, 1 to 4 grams, possession of marijuana under 2 ounces and unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon.Judge Jennifer Reeves arraigned Hilliard on all three charges and his bond was set at $15,000 for each charge. Other evidence was recovered at the residence that may link Hilliard to other crimes. The investigation into this apartment will continue.
