The Texas A&M University-Commerce Percussion Studio is having their final concert of the semester April 29 in the rehearsal hall of the Music Building.Heading the event is Brian Zator, director of percussions. Zator graduated in 1998 from Baylor University with his bachelor’s degree in music, and in 2001 from the University of Michigan with a masters in music. He is currently working on getting his doctorate in music from the University of North Texas in Denton.Featured for the concert are the “Pops Percussion Ensemble”, the “Panimation” steel drums band and the Winter Drum line. All of the featured musical acts are made up of A&M-C students. Special guest, Bret Kuhn, percussion coordinator for the Prospect High School music program from Mt. Prospect, Ill. was made possible to come to the University by a grant from the student organization allocations committee and Connie Mears. “It has been our pleasure to help support the music department in getting exceptional musical talent to the university,” Mears said.Kuhn who has performed with big names such as Rich Matteson, Bobby Shew, Gloria Estefan and Nexus will be playing several pieces with the “Pops Percussion Ensemble” including an original composition, “Renegade Highway.””We are very excited to be able to showcase student talent alongside such a great musician,” Zator said. The student organization percussion association is sponsoring the free concert. The music will begin at 7:30 p.m. and last until around nine.
