Friday, Dec. 5 Alumni Relations is hosting a new event called “Three Stars Over Commerce.” Those who come will get a chance to meet Santa, hear carols and see The Christmas Star. All events start in the new alumni center that opened in October.
“This event is replacing the Feast of the Carols, which took place in years before now,” said Stephanie Peebles, special events coordinator for alumni relations.”Were trying to profile the new buildings on campus. The school is trying to make a huge stride in bettering our facilities, and this is our way of showing off the new buildings.”
Patrons can attend this event at 5:30 p.m. and 6:15 p.m. Friday. The first event will include meeting Santa and snacking on a fruit and cheese tray.
“We got the real Santa to come down from the North Pole,” Peebles said.
After Santa, everyone will be taken to the new Sam Rayburn Student Center, which opened Dec. 1. Here everyone will get to hear the University Chamber Singers perform and enjoy the food available to them. The evening will end in the Planetarium, located in the Science Building, where the The Christmas Star will be showm. Holiday sweets will also be served in the Planetarium.
For students it’s $10 a person and for non-students $20 each. Tickets need to be bought in advance and can be purchased at the new alumni center. There is a limited amount so those planning to attend should plan ahead. Any questions regarding the event should be directed to the alumni center or Stephanie Peebles at 903-468-3085.
