The ladies of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority held their Second Annual Sexiest Man on Campus Contest last Thursday, where they crowned Dominique Curry the winner.
The Sexiest Man on Campus competition is a contest between 12 males to show off their talent and style.
“It’s a fashion and talent show with three judging categories that include the month the guy represents, business attires, and a freestyle category to show off talents,” Curry said.
Each judge had specific restrictions to judge the contestant on.
“The judges judged on how each contesant represented their month, their use of creativity, and overall performance,” Curry said.
Curry was surprised and excited about being named the winner.
“I was surprised, but not very, because I felt that I was the most creative,” Curry said. “At first I wanted to drop out of the contest because everyone took their shirt off and I didn’t, so I didn’t think I had a chance at winning.”
But besides his creativity, Curry feels that his ability just to remain true to himself throughout the competition also made him stand out and greatly contributed to him walking away with the title.
“I’m my own person and throughout the competition I remained true to myself,” Curry said. “I showed that you don’t have to take off your shirt to win.”
When the other males stepped out of line Curry remained respectful and behind the curtains.
“I stayed behind the curtains because I wanted to win and that wasn’t my act,” said Curry. “I didn’t think that other people should be on stage with the contestant when it is their time to shine.”
Originally Curry was not in the competition.
“I really wasn’t supposed to be in the contest, but two guys dropped out and Tiffany Maxfield asked me to be in the competition,” Curry said. “I agreed because I thought it would be fun.”
Curry feels that it was a great learning experience.
“This was my first time being in a fashion competition and I learned that you don’t have to think outside the box to come up with a creative act,” said Curry. “I also learned about unity because all of us put our differences aside on competition day and came together.”
Curry will most likely be competing to reclaim his title next year.
“A new year means a whole new idea to express my creativity,” Curry said.
