Whose turn is it

What is that little contraption on the steering wheel, immediately within reach of our hands, used to let someone know your intentions on the road?

Oh, I know! It’s called a turn signal.

It’s a handy little gadget that is standard on cars of every make and model, it’s very easily located and not at all hard to use. So why is it that it seems to have been forgotten? Is it that people are in such a hurry they are not paying attention? Or is it pure selfishness?

There’s a very polite phrase that has been around for years, “take turns”, something parents would say to their children when playing with a friend or sibling. Some people take for granted that politeness and manners go hand in hand through out the world, however, one should never take anything for granted.

According to the road test to obtain a driver’s license a turn signal is something one must demonstrate they know how to use. The turn signal was designed for a purpose and society seems to have forgotten that as of late.

When out on the road, do people ever remember that they are not the only ones driving? Do they remember to do the 3-point check, checking each mirror to make sure there is no one next to them on either side as they make their lane change?

Traffic jams, and accidents could easily be avoided if people would just remember that little gadget right by their hands. Should schedules require someone to be somewhere at a certain time, do not make it everyone else’s problem while out on the road by speeding and changing lanes rapidly without a turn signal. Leave on time. Be courteous to the people who are out there with you, and imagine if the roles were reversed.

What would it feel like to be tailgated and then cut off by someone without a turn signal because they “forgot” to use it? It would be unpleasant and frustrating to say the least. So, society should keep in mind as they are driving on a daily basis they are not alone, and remember the adage “take turns” it is a lot safer, and a lot more courteous.
