Bloody, not fantastic

Gore, mayhem, sex, pick axes, 3-D and an insanely amusing time is what My Bloody Valentine brings to audiences.

However if someone were to watch this movie in conventional 2-D he or she would probably ask for their money back.

That is the conundrum, which is My Bloody Valentine. The story is stupid, the acting is amateur at best and the deaths are disgusting. But when shown in 3d this collection of crappiness is nothing short of pure entertainment.

The story follows the exploits of Harry Warden, played by Richard Walters, as he rampages through a small mining town killing anyone in his path.

During the movie’s initial killing spree audience members are introduced to Tom Hanniger, played by Jensen Ackles, who is responsible for driving Warden insane.

Once the first killing spree ends the movie jumps 10 years to where Hanniger has returned to the community to sell the mine, which he owns.

Naturally when he returns the killing resumes and the movie turns into a battle between Hanniger and Warden with Hanniger’s ex love thrown into the middle for a little love twist.

All in all this movie is nothing more than a typical slasher flick. The plot line is not going to draw many people in and the acting is not going to get any awards. Even though the film can in no way be taken seriously it is still worth seeing.

The 3-D effects are down right amazing. Warden cruises around the movie with his hard hat on at all times. This means the light on his head is constantly shining and jumping out at the audience. The actors look as if they are three feet in front of you on stage and one point a bloody eyeball actually sails across the room into the audience’s eyes. These are the effects, which make this movie a thrill ride.

Also for those who are a bit more sadistic there is plenty of sick dark humor strewn through out the movie.

For example there is a point in the film where the killer chases a nude woman around a hotel for a good five minutes. The director has no problem showing the audience every nook and cranny of the actress before she is horribly mutilated with a pickaxe.

In the same scene a midget who has very little purpose in the film is pinned to the ceiling.

Some may find this repulsive but it is these scenes of death, which pay homage to old 1970’s horror movies, which make this film incredibly entertaining.

All in all My Bloody Valentine is horribly fun. If viewers go into the movie expecting a brilliantly crafted and original horror movie they will experience extreme disappointment.

But if movie watchers are looking for a crazy good time filled with gore that actually jumps off the screen then this movie is perfect.

For me My Bloody Valentine was the perfect way to cap off Winter break. It gave me a little reaction and a little fun before jumping into the spring semester.
