Senior Nola Taylor scored a career-high 25 points to go along with 11 rebounds for her seventh double double as Texas A&M University-Commerce posted a 92-66 win over host Cameron on Saturday afternoon in Lawton, Oklahoma.
A&M-Commerce (11-6, 3-1 LSC North) rallied from an early 11-point deficit until a 10-0 spurt put the Lions up 23-22 for its first lead and an advantage that they would never relinquish.
Taylor was joined in double digits by senior Britney Jordan, who had her eight-consecutive game of 20 points, with a game-high 29-point effort and sophomore Genevieve Campbell, who hit three 3 pointers for the seventh time, with 17 points on the strength of five 3 pointers. Taylor set a new career-high with seven made free throws on another career-high 11 attempts.
The Lions also received a spark from Angelique Robinson off the bench as she scored eight points and grabbed five rebounds in 13 minutes of action.
Cameron (5-11, 0-3 LSC North) had two players in double figures with 20 points from Tara Tremayne and a double double from Amber Schroer with 17 points and a game-high 12 rebounds in the defeat.
The Lions extended a 15-point halftime advantage to as much as a game-high 34 with a 36-11 spurt over an 11-minute span in the second half. Campbell and Jordan each scored 11 in the spurt en route to the win.
In addtion to the win one of the Lion’s recieved a personal honor for her success.
Texas A&M University-Commerce’s Nola Taylor has collected her first Lone Star Conference North Division Player of the Week award after posting back-to-back double-doubles against Texas Woman’s and Cameron last week, league officials have announced.
“It feels good to get player of the week for the first time,” Taylor said.
Taylor, a 6-1 senior forward, recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds in the Lions’ 99-75 victory over TWU, and followed with a career-high 25 points and 11 boards in a 92-66 win at Cameron on Saturday.
The Oakland, Calif., native leads the team with seven double-doubles on the season, and is averaging 12.1 points and 9.3 rebounds per game. Her current streak has also helped the Lions roll off three straight victories in which she’s averaged 17.3 points and 11.7 boards.?”Just doing the little things,” Taylor said of her recent success. “Being able to get the off-side rebounds and putbacks…garbage points.
Taylor has particularly been dominant on the offensive glass, collecting eight against TWU and seven at Cameron. She currently leads the LSC with 4.4 offensive rebounds per game.
Now at 11-6 overall and 3-1 in LSC North Division play, A&M-Commerce has jumped into a tie for second with Northeastern State, trailing Central Oklahoma (14-3, 4-0) by a game.
Taylor and the Lions will look to continue their winning ways against South Eastern Oklahoma University on Jan. 31 at home.
