New season, new coach

It was a windy day in Commerce, but that didn’t keep the Lions football team from their first day of practice. The team was out in shoulder pads, T-shirts and shorts to begin working for next fall’s football season.

Althought it was the first day, the coaching staff still disciplined the team for jumping offsides and coming late to practice. The team itself looked loose and excited.

“It was a good first day,” Coach Guy Morriss said. “The team showed a lot of excitement and I thought they did a good job of practicing together. We’ll just build on this one and load them up with as much as they can handle. We’re not trying to win a race here, so as long as they’re absorbing it, we’re happy.”

Morriss and his coaching staff worked the players from around 2- 4:30 p.m.
