The A&M-Commerce women’s soccer team had a split weekend in LSC action. They started out with a 2-1 win against Angelo State University on Friday afternoon. The following Sunday, that win was canceled out in a 2-1 loss to Abilene Christian University.
In San Angelo the Lions took the lead in the 10th minute thanks to seniors Meagan Lasley and Whitney Hancock. Lasley was fouled inside the box by an Angelo State defender, and that set up a penalty kick opportunity for Hancock, which she converted for her third goal of the season.
The Rambelles struck back in the second half. Junior Ashley Brown scored her eighth goal of the season after receiving a pass from freshman Natalie Goczoll.
Lasley scored her 10th goal of the season and the game winner in the 84th minute. After breezing past a few defenders, the senior broke free and applied the lethal finish.
The Lions were not as dominant in Sunday’s game, losing 2-1 away to Abilene Christian. The hosts took the lead in the 49th minute through junior Lyndsey Womack. Lexi Stirling provided the assist that lead to Womack’s fourth goal of the season.
Junior Chelsey Haight got the equalizing goal just eight minutes later. A&M-Commerce were lucky to get it, considering they were out-shot 17-4 by Abilene Christian for the game.
With all the opportunities, the Wildcats did eventually find a game-winning goal in the 82nd minute. Freshman Krysta Grimm headed in Alyson Thomas’ free kick to take Abilene Christian to a 10-4-1 record overall and an LSC-leading 5-1-1.
A&M-Commerce follow up those two away games with two home games. They play East Central at 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 23. Bottom of the table Northeastern State is their opponent for the Sunday game at noon.
