When we went with a group of our friends to go try out the Lee Street Bar and Grill in Greenville, Texas on a Monday night, our expectations were low. A bar’s busiest time is not typically 8:30 p.m. on a Monday. It turns out the place is better than we expected, but our timing couldn’t have been worse.
We actually drove by the bar the first time we drove down Lee street before deciding to turn around, park, and try and find it on foot. The bar has no exterior sign, which makes it very hard to pick out from the other buildings of downtown Greenville.
Its location, however, just off of Wesley Street, is a good place for a bar, so now that we know where it is, it’s an easy find.
As we expected, there were not a lot of people in the bar, maybe a dozen at best. The atmosphere was quiet, the lighting low and the service very relaxed. The soft drinks were flat, but the beer was good and relatively inexpensive, and the selection was also surprisingly good, with several imported and domestic beers available in draught and bottles.
Unfortunately, we were not able to review the “grill” part of the “bar and grill,” since the grill was broken and the only person who knew how to fix it, the cook, was not there that night. The menu (on grill-operational nights) consists of burgers, wings and an interesting grilled potato slice variation of French fries. We hope to try it someday.
One of the most interesting things that we took away from our experience was how laid back the atmosphere was. It was truly a relaxing place to grab a few drinks with some friends at the end of a long day. Having not been there on the weekend, we can’t really talk about what the bar is like when it’s more crowded, although regulars told us on the weekends there is little standing room.
We were told the bar brings in various genres of live music Wednesday through Saturday, as the stage at one corner of the bar could attest to.
The best part of the bar was the people, who were all relaxed and friendly. They invited us to come back when the grill was working and when they had live music. We plan on giving the bar another visit and a second review when everything is up and running.
