The A&M-Commerce women’s basketball team is hoping to end their three-game losing streak against the Northeastern State RiverHawks tomorrow at the Field House at 5 p.m.
The Lions currently have a record of 2-13, with Northeastern State coming into the matchup with a reversed 13-2 record. The RiverHawks are currently ranked ninth in the NCAA Division II standings and are coming into the game riding a two-game winning streak.
The RiverHawks started the season winning their first nine games. They won their last game on Jan. 19 over Southeastern Oklahoma University 73-70 led by junior forward Cristy Nitz, who put up 17 points along with three other teammates who scored in double-digits.
The Lions’ last game was an 87-54 loss against the University of Central Oklahoma. Freshman guard Danielle Dixon led the Lions with 17 points, while freshman forward Bianca Stevenson led the team with six rebounds.
Men’s
The men’s basketball team will begin their game against Northeastern State immediately following the women’s game at 7 p.m. The Lions are coming off their first loss in four games to LSC-North leading Central Oklahoma.
Northeastern comes to Commerce with a three-game winning streak in the balance, with all three wins in conference play. The RiverHawks are second in the LSC-North thanks to their conference record, however, their 8-9 record overall implies that they are the underdog against the 11-5 Lions. A&M-Commerce also has a better home record, having won six of their seven games at the A&M-Commerce Field House this season. With a win, the Lions would retain their current third place position over the weekend.
Next up for A&M-Commerce after this game, is a home game against Southwestern Oklahoma on Jan. 26, starting at 5 p.m.
