Commerce Idol winners announced

 

March 22, 2011 (COMMERCE, TEXAS) — The Commerce Rotary Club is pleased to announce that this year’s Commerce Idol talent show and scholarship fundraiser boasted the largest audience in the event’s six-year history.  The annual event is the Commerce Rotary’s largest fundraiser of the year; the money raised is used for scholarships awarded each year to Commerce High School seniors.  Two students are selected each year and each are awarded $500 for four school semesters.

This year’s showcase featured vocal, instrumental and dance performance.  Each act was scored on overall presentation, costumes or attire, audience enthusiasm and overall talent.  First and second place trophies were awarded for each group category and cash prizes were also given to the first-place winners.  This year’s contest had four age categories; first and second place winners were as follows:

3rd-5th Grade Category

1st Place — Fly Girls: Alexandria Matlock, Alyssa Redd, Chammie Jones, Geri Adair and Aslyn Nelson dancing to “Little Miss Swagga”

2nd Place — Hailli Price and Nicolle Williamson dancing to “Please Don’t Stop the Music”

6th-8th Grade Category

1st Place — Chanel Cooper singing “Hurt”

2nd Place — Tabatha Wooten tap dancing to “The Cat in the Hat”

9th-12th Grade Category

1st Place — Briley Davis and Hayleigh Gearheart singing and playing guitar to “Toxic”

2nd Place — Tiffany Landers singing “Forget You”

18 or Older Category

1st Place — Rachel Bailey, Caroline Carlson and Alex Donaghy singing and playing guitars to an original song titled “Friday in Commerce”

2nd Place — Stephanie Langford singing “The Alto’s Lament”
