Lions set for busy away weekend

A busy weekend lies ahead for the athletic teams from Texas A&M University-Commerce, as several teams will be in action on multiple days beginning Friday.

The A&M-Commerce volleyball squad will be in Denton for the Texas Woman’s tournament Friday and Saturday. The Lions (2-8 overall) will take a break from LSC competition to play four matches in two days, starting with a 10 a.m. contest Friday against Arkansas-Fort Smith. Just a few hours later at 4 p.m., the Lions will face Arkansas-Monticello.

On Saturday, A&M-Commerce will play twice, starting with a 9:30 a.m. match against Arkansas Tech and wrapping up the weekend against Southeastern Oklahoma at 3:30 p.m. The Lions will return to the Field House in Commerce on Tuesday, Oct. 4, when they face Dallas Baptist at 7 p.m.

The A&M-Commerce football team will attempt to earn its first win this weekend when they hit the road for another LSC contest at 7 p.m. Saturday. The Lions (0-3 overall, 0-1 LSC) will face Texas A&M University-Kingsville at 7 p.m.

The Javelinas (2-2 overall, 0-2 LSC) will be looking to end a two-game losing skid after starting the season 2-0. The Lions lost a heartbreaker last week, failing to recover an onside kick in the waning moments of a 39-33 loss to Ouachita Baptist in Commerce.

The Lions soccer squad will continue its LSC road trip, with matches Friday at Midwestern State, and at Abilene Christian on Sunday. The matches start at 5 p.m. and 1 p.m., respectively. The Lions (4-3-1 overall, 2-1-1 LSC) will wrap up their 4-game road trip Wednesday at Texas Woman’s.

The A&M-Commerce cross country teams will compete Saturday at the Oklahoma State University Cowboy Jamboree in Stillwater, Okla. The men finished first in their last meet at Texas Wesleyan on Sept. 23.
