The Morris Recreation Center will be holding its annual Fright Fest on Halloween, featuring trick or treating in the gym, Zombie Zumba, and a haunted house. Kappa Alpha Psi will be partnering with Sodexo to collect canned food donations at the event for their STOP Hunger campaign.
The trick or treat, geared toward the children of the community, will feature student organizations giving away candy.
“We have several organizations participating,” special event programmer Sarah Cunningham said. “This is their way to show they support the community. Sodexho will also be there, collecting cans and giving away candy and a basketball goal.”
The Zombie Zumba class will function like their regular zumba sessions, but the instructors and participants will be dressed as zombies and incorporating a horror theme to the class for a night of fitness and Halloween festivities.
The haunted house, in the gym, will be the main feature of Fright Fest.
“We will be having green screen pictures, lots of scary stuff around, and some fear factor games outside,” Cunningham said.
Planning for Fright Fest started in May and continued throughout the summer.
“It takes about six months to get this all ready,” Cunningham said. “During that time we design the haunted house, get the staff equipped to go into the house, get with the other campus organizations, and prepare for advertising.”
Cunningham hopes that Fright Fest will be memorable for all its participants.
“Our goal is to provide an event everyone can have fun at,” she said. “Hopefully we can provide an experience people will remember forever.”
