Just three days after falling at the hand of Tarleton State, the Texas A&M University-Commerce basketball teams will get a chance to avenge those losses, wrapping up a home-and-home series with their conference rivals Saturday in Stephenville.
The women will start the action from Wisdom Gym with a tipoff at 5p.m., while the men will follow at around 7 p.m.
The women (1-14, 0-9 LSC) are hoping to end an 11-game losing streak and capture their first road win of the season. They are currently 0-6 in road games. The Lions fell to the TexAnns, 89-61 on Tuesday at the Field House.
Sophomore post Breanna Harris notched her seventh double-double of the season against Tarleton State, with a career-high 20 points to go with 10 rebounds, but was the only A&M-Commerce player in double figures.
While the Lions struggled offensively, a trio of Rockwall natives lit up the scoreboard for Tarleton (12-5, 9-0 LSC), led by Shelby Adamson’s 21 points. Her sister, Payton, tossed in 18 and Shanae Lowrance added 15 as the TexAnns upped their win streak to 10 straight.
The Lion men fared much better, but couldn’t avoid their third straight loss, falling to the fifth-ranked Texans, 73-69. A&M-Commerce (6-10, 1-7 LSC) trailed by just one at the half, and despite falling behind by almost 20 points in the second half, made it interesting in the waning moments before Tarleton (16-1, 8-0 LSC) closed the door.
Junior Preston Whitley led the Lions with 19 points off the bench, while seniors LaBree Sledge and Desmond King each tossed in 13. Senior Brad Hambrick added 10. Fabian Wilson led three Tarleton players in double figures with a career-high 27 points.
A&M-Commerce will be on the road again Wednesday against Midwestern State before returning home Jan. 28 to host Cameron.
