Former ‘Red Tail’ pilot to speak on campus

A&M-Commerce will welcome Lt. Calvin J. Spann, a surviving Tuskegee Airman, to speak on campus next Wednesday, March 7.

Spann will be holding a round-table lecture in the Ferguson Social Sciences Building Auditorium at 3:30 p.m. The event is part of the Living Legends Lecture theories and is hosted by the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity and Delta Sigma Theta sorority.

As a Tuskegee Airman, Spann was among the first black military aviators in U.S. military history. He and the other 996 airmen trained at Tuskegee Army Airfield from 1941-946. They primarily served in the North African and Mediterranean regions during World War II.
