The Spanish Program of Texas A&M University-Commerce and the Office of Hispanic Outreach have come together to present the Spring 2012 Hispanic Film Horror Showcase.
The film showcase will be going on throughout the spring semester here at the university. The films are critically and publicly acclaimed and professionally produced by Spanish filmmakers.
“The Spanish Program wanted to add to the ongoing cultural events on campus,” Professor of Spanish Dr. David Hervas said.
Hervas, along with Dr. Maria Fernandez Lamarque are co-organizing the event in hopes of bringing more attention to the Spanish program, as well as offer more cultural availabilities to the university as well. The film showcase consists of four films being shown over the course of the semester.
The first film, “El Orfanato” (The Orphanage), was shown on Feb. 23. The second film, “El Labernito del Fauno” (Pan’s Labyrinth), was screened on Thursday, March 29.
The third film, scheduled for Thursday, April 19, is “La Habitación del Niño” (The Baby’s Room). The film is about a couple who moves into an old house in Madrid in which they soon find out they are not the only dwellers.
The fourth and final film, “REC,” which will be shown on Thursday, May 3, is about a zombie revolution in Barcelona. The film is directed by Spanish horror talents Jaume Balagueró and Paco Plaza, as well as the basis for the American remak “Quarantine.”
All films are shown in Spanish with English subtitles and will be shown in the theater (room 203) in the Hall of Languages at 6 p.m.
