Mavs offer half-price tickets

With the National Basketball Association season in effect, Texas A&M University -Commerce students, faculty and staff will have the opportunity to receive Dallas Mavericks tickets half off for the 2009-2010 season.

Ticket Sales Account Executive for the Dallas Mavericks Ernest Rangel has chosen A&M – Commerce and other universities around the Dallas- Ft. Worth area to be a part of this opportunity to come to a game without digging deep into their pockets.

“We are trying to reach out to as many universities, community colleges and other schools as we can,” Ernest Rangel said.

A&M- Commerce has offered this opportunity to their students before.

“This is not the first time that Texas A&M University -Commerce has been chosen to receive half off tickets to the game,” Student Body President, Michelle Tolbert said.

Although the tickets are available to purchase now, some students on campus have no clue this deal is going on and are puzzled there has been no notice sent to their school e-mail accounts.

“I didn’t know about the Maverick tickets deal at all,” junior technology management major Darron Harris said. “As a college student I would consider this a steal and a deal. I am always looking for a deal and this is a perfect opportunity.”

With no limits on the tickets, students are able to buy as many tickets as they want without a big bill to go along with it. The price of the tickets will depend on the seats purchased.

“Tickets that are $69 will be $50, tickets that are $31 will be $15, and tickets that are $22 will be $10,” Tolbert said. “The price just depends on where you sit.”

For students who love basketball and the Dallas Mavericks, this is an opportunity most of the fans at the game will not receive. It is also a chance for students and faculty to not worry so much about the cost.

“This is a great opportunity for me to go to a game and actually enjoy myself without debating on whether I should buy a box of popcorn,” junior psychology major, Daniel Sterling said. “I am a college student, and I want to have cheap fun.”

Though basketball may not be students’ favorite sport, some still consider this a good deal and a way to get out of Commerce for a day or for the weekend.

“I am not a diehard basketball fan or a Mavericks fan, but this is a great deal,” graduate student Bridgette Miles said. “If I did choose to go to a game, I would most definitely buy the tickets.”

Since the Dallas Mavericks is a team that brings thousands of people to the American Airlines Center, tickets could go fast.

“We are encouraging students to buy the tickets for the game that they choose in advance, so if they do happen to want to purchase a lot tickets we will be able to accommodate them,” Rangel said. “If they want to buy 26 tickets we want to be able to sit them all together.”

Students who want to purchase tickets can go on the Mavericks website where there is a link for student tickets, purchase them on the Ticketmaster website or go to the Alumni office.
