S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M., Texas A&M University-Commerce’s official peer education group, will be hosting “Happy Hour with S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M.: BYOB-Bring Your Own Body!” on Wednesday, April 16, 2008 from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the Founder’s Lounge located on the second floor of the Sam Rayburn Memorial Student Center. “The issues we plan programs for are so important to college students, and we want to provide an interactive opportunity for A&M-Commerce students, staff, faculty, and administration to ask us questions, hear more about our organization and our programs, and, if they’d like, they can fill out a membership application at the event,” Tieranee Jones, S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M. president, said.Jones said that she receives many inquiries about the marketing methods of S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M., how they come up with the interesting names like “Safe Sex Olympics,” how to join the organization and the benefits of being in the organization. “Although the issues we discuss are serious, we’re a pretty down-to-earth group of students who are passionate about peer education,” Jones said. “We want to offer a laid-back setting for us to gather and exchange ideas, and present interested students with the chance to join our organization.During the event, S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M. will show a short PowerPoint presentation, a portion of the time will be devoted to mingling with S.W.A.T. T.E.A.M. members and guests, and applications will be available for those interested in becoming a member.”We are open to all majors, genders, races-basically, we don’t discriminate,” Jones said. “Just come on out and learn more about an organization dedicated to helping others on campus,” Jones said. For more information on the event, or if you have any questions or concerns, contact Michael Jones, the event’s coordinator, at mtjones04@gmail.com.
