In a field of 16 teams, four of which are ranked in the top-20, the Texas A&M University-Commerce women’s golf team placed 11th on Sunday in the Tarleton State University Coca-Cola Classic at the Harbor Lakes Golf Club in Granbury.
The Lions and the 16-team field battled the conditions, as the tournament which was scheduled to be a 36-hole affair was shortened to just one round due to inclement weather on Saturday.
A&M-C was led by the play of junior Jamie Gililland, who shot an 89, including a team-best 41 on the back nine, to tie for 43rd place. Freshman Mallory Kempf and junior Ali Tanner tied for 47th with a 90, plus sophomore Heather Pantalion was 56th with a 91.
Tanner had a team-best 43 on the front nine. Freshman Megan Benites was tied for 67th with a 96.
Host and No. 3 Tarleton State won the team title by seven strokes with a 310.
Shraddhanjali Singh and Maury Shock, who tied for second overall with a four-over par, 76, led the TexAnns’.
Alex Smith of St. Edward’s was the individual champion with a one-stroke victory with a 75.
The Lions will return to action at the Rattler Spring Invitational, Sunday, Feb. 24 at the Lady Rattler Roundup at the Dominion Country Club in San Antonio.
