Texas A&M University-Commerce men’s and women’s track teams finished second and third overall, respectively, last weekend at the David Noble Relays in San Angelo. There were strong performances from both the men and the women as both teams won five different events. On the men’s side, Herron Love won the 100-meter dash in his first time running the event this season, with a time of 10.71 seconds. “I was very pleased with the runs of Robert Reed and Tyler Tyndell in the distant runs,” head coach Rich Lawrence said. Reed won the 1500-meter run with a time of 4:01.41. Also running the 1500 were teammates Brandon Womack (4th/4:11.58), Alfredo Soto (5th/4:17.67) and Logan Kelly (6th/4:26.93). In perhaps his strongest finish of the season so far, Tyndell won the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:10.62. “All athletes performed extremely well and learned a great deal from this meet,” assistant coach Jason Wicke said. The women’s team saw strong performances by Lyndon Wyse and Sunny Henderson. Wyse won the triple jump event with a jump of 46-1¼ (14.05m). Wyse also participated in the long jump, where he finished third place and jumped 22-¾ (6.72m). “Lyndon Wyse led the field corps by winning the triple jump and placing high in the long jump with a personal best jump of over 22 feet,” Lawrence said. Henderson won the javelin event by throwing 107-6 (32.76m). Also a strong finish for Henderson was a second place finish in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.06 seconds. “The highlight of the meet was Dean Laing’s second place finish in the decathalon with a national qualifing mark of 6,457. This was an exceptional field of athletes and Dean competed very, very well,” Lawrence said. Laing’s point total was a provisional mark for the NCAA National Championship meet in May. Katie Barthold ran the 200-meter for the first time this season, finishing in 25.80 seconds. Makesha Brewer also ran in the 200-meter dash, and finished in 27.31 seconds. LSC Track Athlete of the Week Brad Dotson recorded a season-best time of 22.23 seconds in the 200-meter. Kasie Carrell finished the 800-meter run in 2:00.75, setting a new season-best by more than a half-second. In the women’s field events, Rachel Redding improved her season-best in the hammer throw by nearly a foot, throwing a distance of 137-6 (41.92m). Also in the women’s field events, was La’Shara Jefferson who finished second in both the shot put and discus events. In the shot put, Jefferson threw a season-best throw of 39-3¾ (11.98m) and had a distance of 137-9 (42.00m) in the discus event. Other top performers for the track teams, were Alycea Wallace, who improved her season-best time in the 100-meter dash by finishing in 12.67 seconds. Also joining Wallace in setting a new season-best was Dena Hawkins, who finished the 100-meter dash in 13.78 seconds.Hawkins participated in the triple jump event, and finished seventh with a jump of 34-2 (10.41m).Esther Fernandez ran the 800-meter run, finishing in 2:33.87, and improving her previous season-best by nearly two seconds. Leslea Traylor ran in the 400-meter, and finished in sixth place with a time of 1:13.15.Next up for the track teams, is the Micheal Johnson Invitational, which will be held at Baylor University on Saturday, April 19.
