National Panhellenic Conference focuses on raising member GPAs

Megan Eckstrom, National Panhellenic Conference president at Texas A&M University-Commerce, has high hopes for the organization this fall.

According to Eckstrom, the focus for this year is raising the grade point averages for the members in the conference. The current required GPA for membership is a 2.5.

“We would like recruitment to be higher and to establish an ongoing philanthropy,” Eckstrom said.”We have between 50 and 75 new members each year, and we’re hoping to raise that.”

An active organization in campus events, the Panhellenic conference helped put together Greek Week on campus with other sororities and fraternities. They also offer tutors in order to help students in various subjects.

“The goals of the club are to follow through with objectives and stride to meet the GPA,” Eckstrom said.

The Panhellenic Conference is also trying to start helping out around the Commerce community more. Over the past two years, they have raised money for United Way by selling Christmas ornaments.

Other officers include vice president Karina Peake, secretary Myranda Willard and financial officer, Taylor Speer.
