Music’s message affected by effects

If you like the musical stylings of Kirk Franklin and company, then Andre Lindsey & The Daniel Project will probably be a delight to your ears.

The “Daniel” part of The Daniel Project is no doubt a reference to the book of the Bible. The song “Shield Me” Lindsey says “Yep, gonna be some hard days man, ya gonna have to ask God to shield you from the hands of your enemies, Daniel chapter two verses 21 and 22, read it some time.”

The lyrics are absolutely amazing. They are full of passion and make it clear that Mr. Lindsey & The Daniel Project really believe what they sing, which is rare in today’s music business.I would like to tip my hat off to them for taking their faith to this degree and making an album that spreads the word of their God in this manner.

Listening to this album, I found it hard not to be distracted by it’s over produced quality. What I mean is, it seemed the producer or mixer of the CD decided to use every effect on the soundboard.

I appreciate the message Mr. Lindsey is trying to profess with the tracks, but it seems to lose some effect when the ears can’t seem to get it because of distracting sounds.

For example in, “Lord You Are Holy,” the message is supposed to lift up the name of the Lord and rejoice in His name. But there is this ominous dripping noise that comes rhythmically with the music. Very distracting.

One track I thoroughly enjoyed was “No Greater Love”, I think it was the hook that got me to keep listening, “You are Alpha, You are my Omega.”

The overall message of the album was made clear by the line, “You laid Your life down and died for me, so I accept the calling on my life.” I am certainly not bashing the man behind the music or questioning his motives, because I believe he has a heart for his Lord and has passion behind his songs

I just wish they would have had some tighter reins when producing and mixing the tracks, just a little over done. If the Kirk Franklin sound was desired for the end result of this album, then the Andre Lindsey & The Daniel Project hit that nail on the head.
