Hard work of a few make homecoming a success

A warm, clear day and the hard work of a few helped make this year’s homecoming celebration a success.

And after this particular one, I can say that with the utmost of confidence.

Upon accepting an internship with the Office of Alumni Relations, I did not know what to expect. This week put in perspective one of the many hats the office wears-the organizers of homecoming. The office coordinates and make sure that the entire day goes off without a hitch.

Starting at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday until the end of the football game, the Alumni Relations crew was everywhere from organizing the parade to welcoming returning alumni, to name a few.

This was after a week full of events that included the Alumni Center groundbreaking and Alumni Golf Classic.

In the months prior to homecoming week, assisting Alumni Relations in the madness was the homecoming committee, comprised of different organizations and departments on campus.

Since August, the committee has held weekly meetings to make sure that all parties involved are on track and to discuss all the events taking place during homecoming.

If the usual hustling and bustling of all the activities wasn’t enough, the committee added a parade – the first since 1991.

Whew!

Sweating aside, these individuals should be commended for their efforts and putting on a homecoming for the ages.

On behalf of The East Texan, we thank you for your efforts.
