Let there be music. James Gee Library now offers listening stations for its students and faculty.
The stations are located on the fourth floor near the musical scores collection, available to all students
Greg Mitchell, director of Gee Library believes it is a great source for students or faculty in the music department to find scores or sheet music, but he is optimistic the it will be used for much more.
“I think that this new innovation to The Gee Library will not only bring in more patrons, but will make us the forerunner in helping students from all majors in everyway that we can,” Mitchell, said.
There are three locked stations that are much like sound proof practice rooms for band students, allowing students to listen to the music of their choice at any volume that they wish.
The stations are equipped to play LP records, audio CD’s and cassette tapes. Laptops can be checked out at the front desk, so that students can view DVD’s of band or musical performances or access the Gee Library music streaming database.
“These stations will be here for everyone to enjoy,” Gee Library Head of Reference, Craig Wheeler said. “The purpose of these new listening stations is to give our clientele full access to various media types in our collections.
According to Wheeler, the reason the stations are located on the fourth floor is to allow music patrons easy access to musical scores, as they listen to recordings.
During normal library hours, students and faculty are able to check out all accessories for the music stations including, headphones and recordings such as CD’s, DVD’s, and LP’s at the front check out desk at no charge.
The full catalog of music and DVD’s available for checkout is listed on the Gee Library Web site, found in the navigation bar of the A&M-Commerce main page.
